Hot drink danger

Did you know that babies and toddlers have much thinner skin than adults? This means that a hot drink can cause a serious burn, even 30 minutes after you made it!

More than 30 babies and toddlers are treated for hot drink scalds every day by the NHS. Despite how common these accidents are, very few parents know how to apply burns and scalds first aid.

  • Keep hot drinks away from young children
  • Never pass a hot drink over a child
  • Never hold a baby or child and a hot drink at the same time
  • Make your home a SafeTea zone: a safe place for hot drinks at home, out of reach of small children
